This is our protagonist, Maya "Mayday" Rodriguez.  (Nickname from teammates because when she’s on fire, she’s unstoppable…and when she spirals, it’s a full emergency.)

Stubborn as a bad umpire call, and absolutely convinced she can hit her way out of any problem. She's loud when she's excited, quiet when she's hurting, and her brain runs about a hundred miles an hour—even when she wishes it wouldn't.
Ever since learning she has ADD, Maya's been trying to figure out if being different is a weakness or her secret weapon. She overthinks, says the wrong thing sometimes, and has been known to argue with herself in the batter's box.
But she's fiercely loyal  and never stays down for long. Maya isn't perfect—not even close. She's messy, funny, determined, and learning that courage isn't about having it all together. Sometimes it's just stepping up to the plate anyway.

Core Fear: “If I can’t control my brain, I can’t control my game.”

The best friend and rival, Kendall Price, she's been in Maya's life since little league. But they're as different as mustard and ketchup.

Kendall is the kind of player coaches love and teammates lean on. She's steady, disciplined, and somehow always remembers the little things
who's nervous before a game, and what Maya needs to hear after a rough inning.
She doesn't say much unless it matters, but when she does, people listen. Kendall works harder than anyone realizes, cares more than she lets on, and even when she's competing with her best friend, she never stops rooting for her.
She believes showing up for people is just as important as showing up on the scoreboard.

Position: Center Field, Lead-off hitter

Athletic Style: Disciplined, Technical, Practices twice as hard as everyone else

Personality: Competitive but subtle, hold emotions in

Core Fear: "If I'm not the best, I'm nothing special"

The neighbor since childhood, Ethan Brooks, and Maya's secret weapon for understanding her sometimes disconnects in life.

Ethan is the kind of friend who notices things before anyone else does. He's easygoing, armed with a dry sense of humor, and somehow always knows the right thing to say without making it a big deal.
While everyone else focuses on Maya's batting average, Ethan pays attention to Maya herself—the pressure she's carrying, the doubts she hides, and the moments she needs someone in her corner.
He isn't loud or flashy, but his quiet support has a way of grounding her when the game—and life—start moving too fast.

Interests:  Lo-fi beats, coding his own game, music production

Personality: Non-competitive, Socially awkward at school, Emotionally intelligent

Narrative Function: Outside perspective, Comic relief, The only relationship without rivalry

He doesn’t care about batting averages.

He cares about her spiraling.
